Application:

These hardened-steel split cotters (quantity 2 per valve) lock the spring cap to the stem of inlet and exhaust valves on Perkins 4.236, 4.248, 6.354, 1004-4, 1004-40, 1004-4T, 1006-6, 1006-60T and CCW6.601 engines; they are therefore used in Massey Ferguson 165-399 tractors, 30-50 back-hoe loaders, 550-890 combines, Landini 7860-8880 row-crop tractors, JCB 3CX/4CX back-hoes, Claas 65-75 forage harvesters, New Holland 1116 swathers, 1495/1496 mower-conditioners, Volvo BM 2200 forklifts, FG-Wilson P100-4 & P135-4 generator sets and a wide spread of irrigation, construction and marine auxiliaries that use the above engine families world-wide.

Technical specifications:

The cotter is die-forged from 65 Mn spring-steel, heat-treated to 48-52 HRC, 8.9 mm ID, 5.0 mm OD, 6.0 mm overall length and 45° included taper; the split design gives 0.15 mm radial grip on the valve groove, preventing cap walk at 6 000 valve lifts per minute. Weight is 1.6 g per pair and the parts are supplied oiled and ready for installation.

Material & performance features:

The contact faces are precision-ground to Ra 0.4 µm to eliminate micro-slip, while a manganese-phosphate coating gives 96 h salt-spray resistance and aids initial bedding-in. The design maintains clamp load within ±5 % after 5 million cycles, eliminating valve-stem wear and spring cap loosening under severe stop-start agricultural duty.
