Application:

The 2714A002 valve collet (pair of tapered keepers) is used on every intake and exhaust valve of Perkins 1104D-E44T/TA, 1104C-E44T/TA and 1103D series 4- and 3-cylinder diesels. Typical host machines are JCB 3CX/4CX back-hoe loaders, JCB 535-95/540-170 telescopic handlers, Manitou MLT 741/840 telehandlers, Massey Ferguson 6465/6470/7480 tractors, McCormick MTX/MCX models, Landini Legend/Atlantis ranges, 60–120 kVA generator sets and compact wheel loaders operating in European and North-American rental fleets. Because the 7° 7.87 mm split-groove geometry is identical to earlier 1004.4 and 804D engines, the same collet is also listed for service on legacy Perkins-powered forklifts, combine harvesters and irrigation pumps, giving one part number coverage for more than twenty years of 3- and 4-cylinder production.

Technical specifications:

The collet is precision-formed from 0.9 mm thick Cr-Si spring-steel strip (SAE 6150), heat-treated to 48–52 HRC, then shot-peened to 0.18 mm A intensity to raise fatigue life above 1 × 10⁷ cycles at 2800 min⁻¹ engine speed. 

Material & performance features:

The 6150 steel retains 90 % of its yield strength at 200 °C, so the collet survives continuous exhaust temperatures of 820 °C during DPF regeneration without relaxation. The 7° taper angle gives self-locking characteristics—once the spring seat is compressed the collet cannot back out even under severe vibration—while the serrations prevent micro-sliding that would otherwise widen the stem groove.
