Application:

The valve seat 3314A051 is engineered for use in the exhaust section of Perkins 1004.4, 1004-4T, T4.236 and AT4.236 turbocharged diesel engines (3.9 L), power units that are found in mid-range agricultural tractors such as the Massey Ferguson 362/365/375/383 series, combine harvesters like the MF 30 and 31, industrial sweepers, forklift trucks, generator sets from 40-70 kVA, and irrigation pumps. The seat is also specified for the later 1006-60T, T6.601 and CCW6.601 six-cylinder derivatives when the same cylinder-head architecture is carried over, making it a common service item across farms, construction yards and rental-fleet power packs worldwide.

Technical specifications:

The seat is a precision press-in ring, 38.10 mm outside diameter, 33.30 mm inside diameter and 8.90 mm overall height, machined to a 45° conical face that mates with the exhaust valve head. The outside diameter is ground to a 0.05 mm interference fit to guarantee positive retention in the aluminum cylinder-head insert, while the 2.0 mm wide seat contact band ensures reliable sealing at boost pressures up to 1.4 bar and exhaust gas temperatures of 720 °C.

Material & performance features:

The seat is manufactured from a low-alloy sintered steel (Fe-3Cr-2Mo-1C) that is oil-quenched after sintering to reach a core hardness of 92 HRB, then triple-tempered to relieve internal stress. The working face is high-frequency induction-hardened to 52 HRC to a depth of 1.2 mm, giving a wear index better than 600 hours in continuous 3000 rpm field tests. A manganese phosphate conversion coating (2–4 µm) is applied to the outer diameter to improve initial lubrication during press-fit and prevent micro-welding under severe thermal cycling.
