Application:
Valve Cover Gasket 3681A049 is a die-cut, graphite-reinforced nitrile-bound sealing element designed for the Perkins 1004-4, 1004-40/T, 1004-42 and 1006-6 four- and six-cylinder diesel families (4.4 L & 6.0 L). It is used on Massey Ferguson 2600/2700/3000 tractors, JCB 3CX back-hoe loaders, Manitou rough-terrain forklifts, Claas Dominator combines and 50 – 110 kVA generator sets. The gasket seals the aluminium rocker cover to the cast-iron cylinder head and must resist hot oil mist, vibration and thermal cycling from –30 °C to +180 °C, so it is replaced at every top-end overhaul.
Technical specifications:
The sheet measures 440 mm × 135 mm × 1.2 mm and is moulded from high-density fibre bonded with graphite-filled NBR; the inner perimeter is rope-edge bonded to prevent wick-through, while outer anti-slip ribs keep the gasket centred during cap-screw tightening. Compression set is <15 % after 168 h at 150 °C, and the material passes ASTM F104 oil-resistance and 1 000 h salt-spray tests. The gasket withstands 9 MPa combustion pulse and maintains lateral sealing pressure >6 MPa after 5 000 h service life.

The gasket is moulded from premium aramid-fibre / nitrile-rubber composite whose micro-embossed surface conforms to cast-iron cylinder-head and aluminium rocker-cover micro-finish; the inner perimeter is rope-edge reinforced to block oil wick-through, while the outer anti-slip ribs keep the part centred during cap-screw tightening; silicone locator pips allow one-hand “hang-and-press” assembly, eliminating the need for additional sealant or retorque after initial heat cycle, and the material meets ASTM F104, SAE J90 and ISO 6310 oil-resistance standards for heavy-duty diesel applications.
