Application:
2418M505 is the exhaust-valve stem seal fitted to Perkins 1004-4, 1004-4T, 1004-40TW, 1006-6 and 1006-6T diesels (4.0–6.0 L) used in MF 3000/6400 tractors, JCB 3CX/4CX back-hoes, Case-IH CX/Maxxum, Claas combine harvesters and 55–70 kVA generator sets. It locates in the cylinder-head guide and wipes a 9 mm stem, preventing oil migration into the exhaust port while still leaving the 0.02 mm oil film needed for valve survival at speeds up to 3 000 min⁻¹.
Technical specifications:
Overall height 14.1 mm, body diameter 14.9 mm, stem bore 9.0 mm, fit side exhaust. The structural cup is drawn from 0.8 mm low-carbon steel, zinc-nickel plated 8 µm for 720 h salt-spray protection; the sealing lip is FPM (fluoro-rubber) 70 Shore A, PTFE-coated 15 µm to reduce stick-slip. Operating temperature –40 °C to +150 °C, burst pressure 0.6 MPa, maximum valve lift 14 mm without unseating.
Material & performance features:
The FKM compound resists swelling in 15 ppm sulphur diesel and retains elasticity after 1 000 h at 150 °C in ASTM #3 oil. A corrosion-resistant stainless-steel garter spring exerts 18 ± 1 N radial load, giving uniform contact pressure around the 9 mm stem and reducing wear groove depth to <0.02 mm after 6 000 h.
