Application:

Valve seat 3314A101 is the intake seat for the naturally-aspirated and turbocharged Perkins 1004-42, N4.421 and 1004.40 four-cylinder diesels (4.0 L) that power Massey Ferguson 362/365/375/383 agricultural tractors, the MF 30 and 31 combine harvesters, 40-65 kVA generator sets, JCB 530-70 Loadall tele-handlers, and a wide range of industrial sweepers, forklift trucks and irrigation pumps. The same seat is also used in the 1004.4T and AT4.40 turbo builds, making it a common service component across farms, rental fleets and construction yards worldwide.


Technical specifications:

The seat is a press-in ring 48.2 mm outside diameter, 41.3 mm inside diameter and 9.5 mm overall height, machined with a 30° conical face that mates with the intake valve head. The outside diameter is precision-ground to a 0.04 mm interference fit to guarantee positive retention in the cast-iron cylinder head, while the 2.4 mm wide seat contact band seals reliably at boost pressures up to 1.4 bar and inlet air temperatures of 200 °C.


Material & performance features:

The seat is manufactured from a low-carbon Cr-Mo-V sintered steel (Fe-2Cr-1.5Mo-0.8C) that is oil-quenched after sintering to reach a core hardness of 90 HRB, then double-tempered to relieve internal stress. The working face is high-frequency induction-hardened to 50 HRC to a depth of 1.1 mm, giving a wear index better than 900 hours in continuous 3000 rpm field tests. A manganese phosphate conversion coating (2–3 µm) is applied to the outer diameter to improve initial lubrication during press-fit and prevent micro-welding under severe thermal cycling.
