Application:

The 3152A051 exhaust valve is designed for Perkins 1104D-E44T, 1104D-E44TA, 1104C-E44T and 1104C-E44TA turbocharged after-cooled 4.4-litre industrial diesels that power JCB 3CX/4CX backhoe loaders, JCB 535-95/540-170 telescopic handlers, Manitou MT 1440 telehandlers, Terex TLB 840 backhoes, Massey Ferguson 6465/6470/7480 tractors, McCormick MTX/MCX series tractors, Landini Legend/Atlantis tractors, 60–120 kVA generator sets and numerous compact wheel loaders used in European and North American rental fleets. The same valve head and stem geometry is retro-compatible with earlier Perkins 1004.4 and 804D engines, so it is routinely listed as a single service solution covering twenty years of 4-cylinder Perkins production.

Technical specifications:

The valve is a monobloc construction forged from 21-4N (EV8) austenitic steel; the head diameter is 38.0 mm, stem diameter 8.0 mm and overall length 124.5 mm. The seat face is stellite-6 PTA-overlay 1.8 mm wide, ground to 45°, while the stem tip is induction-hardened to 52 HRC to 3 mm depth to resist rocker wear. A 0.8 mm wide chromium-plated band extends 18 mm below the lock groove to guide the valve in the Mn-Ni-Cr-alloy cast-iron guide, giving a running clearance of 0.04–0.07 mm when the engine is at 90 °C.

Material & performance features:

The 21-4N alloy maintains tensile strength above 620 MPa at 850 °C, so the valve survives exhaust gas peaks of 820 °C during DPF active regeneration without micro-welding to the seat. The stellite overlay reduces seat recession to less than 0.025 mm per 1000 h in engines running high-biodiesel blends, while the chromium-plated guide band cuts stem wear rates to 0.5 µm per 1000 h, doubling the traditional 6000 h overhaul interval to 12000 h in generator duty.
